The Mising Autonomous Council covers the following key areas of work across its 28 departments:
- Agriculture: The MAC area is completely rural and its economy is fully agrarian. It falls in the North Bank Plain and Upper Brahmaputra Valley agro-climatic zone.
- Animal Husbandry & Veterinary: Steps have been taken to revamp the infrastructure of the AH&V department, which was in a dilapidated condition in the MAC area. 21 Nos of Veterinary Aid Centres have been established.
- Fisheries: Fish farming or pisciculture holds immense potentiality as a viable alternative mode of livelihood as well as a commercial venture.
- Cottage Industry: Scheme for infrastructure building and financial support to various cottage industries like Beekeeping, Cane & Bamboo crafts.
- Social Forestry: Loss of natural forest cover is one of the causes of the devastating impact of flood and erosion in the MAC area.
- Handloom & Textiles: Next to agriculture, handloom is the largest unorganized sector of livelihood. Every woman of the Mising community is a weaver.
- Rural Road & Bridges: Construction, Repairing & Maintenance of rural roads, culverts, bridges, Govt. or Council buildings, other public works etc.
- Sericulture: Dhemaji and adjoining Lakhimpur district are traditional growers of wild silk – both Muga and Endi.
